Have you ever heard that a short nap can refresh your mind and boost your mood? Yes! It’s true as those power naps can help us restore our mental energy. While the science on naps is still emerging, there's no doubt that a lot of people feel better after taking a nap. Napping for 20 minutes at any time of the day can help you feel better and have greater clarity and productivity. 

The ideal length for a power nap or cat nap varies from person to person, but somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes is the general recommendation. Any longer and deeper stages of sleep begin, which can lead to a zombie-like state of grogginess when it’s time to wake up.

A twenty minute power nap is a refreshing and revitalizing break from routine. This quick sleep will refresh your mind for some time after awakening from it. By encouraging our bodies to sleep during the day, we give them an opportunity to release melatonin which helps to fight cancer cells.

Every person has a limited amount of time to sleep. Here are these simple tips to follow which will make napping easier for you!

  • # Create a sleep friendly environment: Lie down on your side, or with your head propped up on a pillow, with your eyes covered by a sleep mask or eye shades to block out light. Breathe deeply 
  • # Set your alarm clock for 15 minutes. Once it rings, you have woken up already, so you don’t have to think about it
  • # Set aside your worries: We recommend trying relaxation techniques and exercise to eliminate stress that keeps you awake. Try breathing exercises which can help you fall asleep quickly.
  • # Use guided meditations or sleep music: Soothing sounds and calming instructions might help you feel more relaxed and fall asleep faster. 
  • # If you don’t want to fall asleep, focus on breathing deeply and slowly. See what works for you, there’s no single right mantra to this.
